The Art of Photography is a podcast published weekly covering all things photography related.

If you’d like to contact the show, feel free to send an email.

Statistics:

To date, the Flickr group has over 2000 members who contribute photos and participate in discussions about the podcast. iTunes does not let podcasters track the number of subscribers but the server statistics indicate about 40,000 to 50,000 requests per episode. The Art of Photography is a featured show on Mevio which gets an additional 100,000 episode views when featured bringing the show to an even broader audience.

I started the show back in October of 2008. Being an avid podcast listener myself, I wanted to create my own show to fill what I perceived as a void in the area of photography podcasts. There are some well produced shows out there done by some very talented people, but I found the content focused solely around whatever current gear is out or photoshop techniques. These two subjects have very little to do with photography. I wanted to make the podcast that I would subscribe to and actually teach things like technique, history, work of other photographers – things that would make people better photographers and not equipment collectors.

I am extremely grateful for the fine viewers who watch each episode. I am always humbled when people email me complements and questions – or even send samples of their work asking me to critique. Its been a fun ride so far.

I offer the podcasts and all blog content and tutorials free to anyone who wants to use them. I don’t make money from producing the podcast and rely on the kindness of viewers who donate. To those who have contributed, I am extremely grateful!

Equipment:

The show is produced in my studio on minimal equipment (to keep things simple and the podcast easily sustainable). The video is shot on a Canon 5D mk ii (early episodes were shot on a Canon HV30 direct into a MacBook Pro via firewire capture). The audio is recorded on a Sony PCM-D50 recorder using a lavaliere microphone.

Editing is done in Final Cut Studio using Final Cut Pro for editing, Compressor for output and Motion for the titles and text overlays. Audio is mastered using Soundtrack Pro and, if needed, Logic Pro. Screen recording is done using ScreenFlow and a Blue YETI microphone.

Thanks for watching!
